The Sleepover, is finally set to release their debut record, Oceans of Ice, Island of Terror. The album has ten songs, all of which are sh*t-hot. It was recorded by Chris Steffen, edited/mixed by Eric Medley, and mastered by C. Howie Howard and a horse of some sort. The artwork was done by Chad Hawthorne, who slayed it, of course.

Omaha, NE: Friday, June 18th at O’Leaver’s Pub, w/ Techlepathy and Fortnight. I am guessing right around $4.

I’m not sure if Ember herself is the cruel, cruel woman who’s the subject of this album, or if it’s about some woman who she’s less than enamoured with, but there’s little sign of cruelty in her lyrics, and similarly, no obvious traces of anger or resentment. Instead, on he debut album, Ember gives us a collection of songs that portray a broad emotional – and indeed musical – range, painted using multitudinous shades from the broad folk palette.

Ember Schrag is a new name to me, from out of the blue. A femme singer/songwriter, but not just another femme singer/songwriter. A Cruel, Cruel Woman is the Nebraskan’s debut album.

Ember Schrag can be bagged as folk/country music, and she’s presenting quite a tasteful platter. A Cruel, Cruel Woman is indeed a shiny and sparkling debut.
