I’m not sure if Ember herself is the cruel, cruel woman who’s the subject of this album, or if it’s about some woman who she’s less than enamoured with, but there’s little sign of cruelty in her lyrics, and similarly, no obvious traces of anger or resentment. Instead, on he debut album, Ember gives us a collection of songs that portray a broad emotional – and indeed musical – range, painted using multitudinous shades from the broad folk palette.
